Stakeholder Engagement Strategies and Practices in Utility Organisations

The CIGRE Working Group C3.04 on stakeholder engagement strategies in sustainable development aims to develop a Best Practice Guide on stakeholder engagement and consultation strategies.

We need the person with responsibility for stakeholder engagement and communication to fill out this questionnaire.

We need your feedback in this survey to provide information on:

• When and how you use communication, consultation and other approaches to stakeholder engagement;
• Your policies and approaches with regards to consultation and stakeholder engagement;
• What you see as priority areas for Power Utilities to further develop effective stakeholder engagement and communication strategies;

The survey questionnaire covers:

• Information about your organisation;
• Policies, drivers and legal obligations on stakeholder engagement;
• Stakeholder coverage and current approaches to consultation and stakeholder engagement;
• Current consultation and engagement methods and experiences;
• Managing and implementing consultation and stakeholder engagement;
• Measurement and impact of consultation and stakeholder engagement approaches;
• Priority areas for improvement, how to develop more effective stakeholder communication and engagement strategies within the sustainable development agenda.
• The open questions of the questionnaire can be answered in one of the following languages: English, French, Spanish, Portugese or Dutch.

• We appreciate you may have limited time, and ask you to complete some of the more straightforward 'priority' questions - we anticipate completing these questions should not take more than 15 minutes

What happens next?

To develop the Best Practice Guide, the Working Group will:

• Conduct this survey - a snapshot of current approaches to stakeholder engagement and consultation;
• Analyse survey results and write a Findings Final Report;
• Based on findings, develop a Best Practice Guide to assist Power Utilities in this increasingly important area of consultation and stakeholder engagement;

The Working Group also intends to publish a summary of the final report in the CIGRE magazine ELECTRA.

The Best Practice Guide is expected to be published in 2008 for CIGRE members and it will be available for survey respondents upon request.
